To Bleed or Not to Bleed
Description
-
The patient is a 17-year-old female with history of ulcerative colitis and lower extremity DVT on apixaban, who is admitted to the hospital with a GI bleed secondary to an inflammatory bowel disease flare.
Upon admission, her apixaban is held due to continued active GI bleeding. She is started on IV steroids by the GI team. Labs obtained upon admission include CBC and CMP, all of which are within normal limits. No significant physical exam findings. Temperature 38.1, tachycardic to 120, vital signs otherwise within normal limits.
If the patient presented with life-threatening bleeding, what should be considered first for apixaban reversal?
